Murder Me Dead by David Lapham

(I got a copy of this from Diamond Book Distributors and Net Galley.)

The story revolves around Steven Russel a man whose rich wife was found hanging from a ceiling fan. The police thinks it’s suicide, but his wife’s family doesn’t think so. He finds love again in his old high school crush, now I won’t spoil anything, but the story goes from bad to worst for Steven. The story includes murder, lust, blackmail, and annoying bad guys (I do not mean in a bad way).

I have to be honest, I’m not a big fan of noir, but I appreciate its beauty, so when I started reading Murder Me Dead… I was surprised. I could not stop reading, I was hooked. The story had me guessing who killed who. This book just grabbed me and did not let go, I finished it in one night. I gripped my phone harder and harder till I got to the ending where everything¬†made sense. There was a bunch of times where I went “What?!?! Why?!?! NO!!” I love it when books make me question things… This book definitely did.

Readers who love mysteries should definitely buy this book (and prepare for its ending)!

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I brought this book everywhere just so I could read what would happen next. Gillian Flynn made her two main characters, Nick Dunne and Amy Elliot Dunne, so dynamic that it was hard not to root for them both. The wonderful plot twist made me grip and read this book so hard I found myself reading till 5 AM

.

here’s the teaser of the book:

“On the morning of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick’s wife, Amy, has disappeared. Nick is weak, Nick is a liar, and maybe he’s not the very best of husbands – but is he a killer? Amy’s diary reveals turmoil over their marriage, strange sicknesses, and her deep wish to be a mother – but is she telling the whole story?”

Flynn painted a good picture of the media and its hype with the “missing girl” stories. How PR and strategic interviews can change people’s opinions about the suspect (in this book)… no really, the media can change our perceptions about a person through how they create their take of the news. I wish I could my thoughts into words tight now, but seriously I’m just so speechless on how she perfectly painted that picture… I can’t transform my thoughts into writing.

I admit I was skeptical into buying this book (but thank the heavens for giving me a friend who forced me to buy a copy). I did not regret buying this book. If you’re looking for a thriller that has two kick butt characters… this is the book for you.

plus they made this book into a movie, with Flynn’s screenwriting (hinting there’s a different ending in the movie)!

Productivity Break

I’ve been MIA for the past couple of months, things happened ( I won’t get into details), and now I find myself out of school (I dropped out for this semester) with nothing to do. At first I was like “YES! A BREAK FOR MY SOUL TO HEAL!” but I found myself being unproductive and just sitting on my sorrow.

I decided to make my “break” a productive one, I made cross-stitched bookmarks, I made bracelets out of those rubber bands, and I started reading a lot. I’ve been in love with reading since I was like 12 years old, my grandpa would take me to a bookstore (where I did spend a lot of hours in) every sunday. He would buy me books every week and I would finish them all. When I started college… well, I didn’t get time to read books (that were not school related) a lot.

Here comes my escape NetGalley! It’s a place where you can download books for free and review them in your blog… I can do both, so why not? I’ve been trying to write reviews and I want to read so this is a great opportunity!

You interested? If you are, first things first, you need to register to their website so you can request for titles (books) from publishers to download, and review them. Update your profile so more publishers can approve your requests for titles. It’s a great website!

In the next months you’ll see a bunch of reviews and of course random thoughts.
